Zoobilation tickets on sale

Zoobilation has become Indy’s biggest food bash, and if you’re hoping to go this year, you’re not alone — last year more than 5,000 people attended the black tie event and raised a record $1.6 million for the Indianapolis Zoo. The fundraiser features food and drink from 70 local restaurants.

I’ve had the good fortune to have judged the Zoobilation restaurant competition the past few years; otherwise, I doubt that I could have afforded a ticket, which typically sell out, despite the evening’s high price tag. General admission tickets are $275 ($250 for zoo members), but if you want to get in early and enjoy the perks of a VIP pass, it’ll cost you $475 ($450 for members).

But that gets you all the food and booze you care to consume, entertainment and access to the city’s movers and shakers — you’ll see plenty of well-known faces at the June 13 event.

In fact, people watching is part of the fun; you’ll spot long evening gowns and traditional tuxes as well as more unusual attire based on the event’s theme. This year it’s “Rock Your Orange” in honor of the new orangutan exhibit, so you can expect the local tux rental shops to be out of orange bow ties and vests that night. And you’ll likely see lots of orange Converse All-Stars  — comfortable shoes are key to enjoying the evening.

You can order tickets online here.
