So this is very cool — acclaimed pastry chef Jacquy Pfeiffer, co-founder of the French Pastry School in Chicago, will be in Indianapolis this weekend for book signings and demos.
Pfeiffer, who is the author of the James Beard award-winning cookbook, The Art of French Pastry, will be at Circle City Sweets in the Indianapolis City Market Saturday, May 31, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for a demo and book signing. And you can definitely expect some samples along the way, says Circle City Sweets owner Cindy Hawkins.
“He’s going to be demo-ing a few different things,” said Hawkins, who studied at the French Pastry School. “Some macarons, some jams, some different fillings, and of course we’ll all get to be snacking on his creations.”
Pfeiffer, who has been a mentor and inspiration to Hawkins in her own pastry business, “is just an amazing chef,” she said. “They sent me some recipes for us to have some ingredients ready for him. There’s an orange marmalade, a raspberry jam, an Earl Gray ganache and then some French macarons, which are of course are one of their specialties.”
The beautiful macarons have become one of Hawkins’ specialties as well.
“The macarons are my specialty because of them being their specialty,” she said. “That’s who I originally learned macarons from, was chef Jacquy. They’re just a great cookie. They’re just little bites of heaven.”
You can likely taste one of those bites of heaven during Pfeiffer’s demos. Following his appearance at Circle City Sweets on Saturday, Pfeifer will be at Indy Reads at 911 Massachusetts Ave. at 5 p.m. for a presentation. And he’ll also be doing a demo at Ivy Tech’s culinary facility at 2820 N. Meridian St. on Sunday, June 1, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. For more info on the demos and book signings, check out the French Pastry School’s website. — Jolene Ketzenberger
