Well, this is interesting. Former Indianapolis Colts linebacker Gary Brackett is opening an upscale soul food restaurant.

To be called Georgia Reese’s Southern Table & Bar, the restaurant is expected to open in August in a former Outback Steakhouse location at 3454 W. 86th St. in College Park.

The restaurant, which will have a supper club atmosphere and will feature live jazz and R&B performers, will specialize in Southern fare with “authentic recipes prepared and served in an upscale urban atmosphere filled with the sounds and smells of home.” According to the restaurant’s Facebook and Twitter pages, “Gary Brackett brings soulful Southern cuisine to the Hoosier heartland.”

Food and beverage experience comes from general manager Bradley Phelps, an industry veteran formerly of Harry & Izzy’s, the Radisson, Cunningham Restaurant Group and others.

It doesn’t surprise me that Brackett is opening a restaurant. I had fun talking food with him when we judged at Zoobilation last year. — Jolene Ketzenberger
