Well, this is certainly interesting. I just got this press release this morning about new ownership at the Illinois Street Food Emporium.
Here’s the release:
Today, longtime Indianapolis restaurant management specialist Vivian Farris announced the acquisition of the Illinois Street Food Emporium, located at 5550 Illinois St. The restaurant was owned since 1979 by Indianapolis residents Ernie and Sue Kobets.
“I have a passion for quality food service coming from a long tradition of
restaurant operations in my family,” said Farris. “Ever since I worked in a family cafeteria in Anderson, I have wanted to own a restaurant and to have the chance with one that I used to come to with my parents is remarkable.”
The transfer of ownership is effective today. The food and beverage offerings, catering and current hours of operation will not change at this time.
“Over the last 34 years Ernie and Sue have built an amazing operation with a talented team of employees and I look forward to partnering with them to continue the tradition of providing great food and service,” said Farris. “I live in this neighborhood and want to listen to employees, neighbors and customers about ways to grow and improve the Emporium to continue to serve as a vital part of the community.”
Farris is an Indianapolis native with over thirty years of experience in restaurant operations. She formerly was the General Manager for Talbott Street nightclub, TGI Fridays, and Malibu Grill, all located in Indianapolis. Farris is also active in the community as a member of the Holy Apostle Greek Orthodox Church and works with The Damien Center and Indy Pride Inc.
The Illinois Street Food Emporium is located at 56th and Illinois streets. Hours of operation are Monday and Saturday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Tuesday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
