The James Beard Foundation Restaurant & Chef Award semifinalists were announced today, and Indianapolis has garnered five semifinalist spots.
In the Best Chef Great Lakes Region, Greg Hardesty of Recess made the semifinalist list for the fifth time.
Chef Abbi Merriss, whose restaurant Bluebeard was a semifinalist in the national category of Best New Restaurant in 2013, is also a 2016 Best Chef Great Lakes semifinalist.
And Jonathan Brooks, chef/owner at Milktooth, continues his rise up the culinary charts with a spot on the 2016 Best Chef Great Lakes list as well.
Alan Sternberg, executive chef at Cerulean restaurant, is a semifinalist in the national category of Rising Star Chef of the Year, which honors innovative young chefs age 30 and younger.
Martha Hoover, owner of Cafe Patachou, Petite Chou, Napolese and Public Greens, is a semifinalist in the national category of Outstanding Restaurateur. Hoover was also a semifinalist in 2013.
The final nominees in each category will be announced March 15. Winners will be announced at the Beard Awards gala in Chicago May 2. Here’s the complete list of semifinalists. — Jolene Ketzenberger
