Fairview Fish Fry serves up “awesome cod” for 80 years

That’s a lot of fish. For 80 years, Fairview Presbyterian Church has been hosting an annual fish fry. I love that what began as a way to raise money for a new church roof has become such a neighborhood tradition. Plus its slogan — “Our cod is an awesome cod” — cracks me us every year.

It’s the oldest continuously running fish fry in Marion County, and you’ll find traditional hand-breaded fish, as well as chicken, hot dogs, secret recipe baked beans and salad dressing and slices of delicious cake and pie baked by church members.

The fish fry runs from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.Thursday and Friday, June 5-6, at Fairview Presbyterian Church, 4609 N. Capitol Ave. Meals are $10 per person and include all you can eat fish or chicken as well as two sides. It’s $5 for kids ages 5-10; kids under 5 eat free.

You can sit down and enjoy a meal or even get it to go. The cod, prepared by Dan’s Fish Fry Service, really is awesome, but be sure to get some pie as well. It’s pretty awesome too. — Jolene Ketzenberger
