Downtown building evacuated

The 30 South Meridian building, a Kite Realty building in downtown Indianapolis, was evacuated Wednesday following what was apparently a transformer explosion beneath the building.

The building, located on Meridian Street just south of Washington Street, houses Napolese, an artisan pizzeria by Patachou.

Napolese is closed until tomorrow, said Patachou spokesperson Christina Pippen.

“They have closed the entire building for the evening,” said Pippen. “But we don’t have any staff hurt. We don’t have any customers hurt. Everybody’s fine.”

Despite the black smoke that billowed in the area, Pippen said authorities say there should be no damage to the Napolese space.

“We’ll have to see what it looks like,” she said of the pizzeria, which sports a mostly white decor.

Assuming there’s no damage, look for the artisan pizzeria to reopen Thursday.

The building also houses The Oceanaire Seafood Room, which is also closed.
